It’s March.

Change what you can change …
This week, this month, is about equality.

It’s about feeling seen.
Feeling heard.

Being recognized.
Being valued.

The 2022 theme for IWD – International Women’s Day–
is #breakingthebias.

And breaking bias starts by changing perceptions.

By seeing women’s identity beyond our relationships to others.

We are more than
Wives …
Mothers …
Daughters …
Parents …
Single parents …

We are more than
Professionals …
Entrepreneurs …
Working women …
Stay-at-home women …
Students …

Yes, our brains love words that group people into categories.

Labels allow us to comfortably put people into boxes.
Boxes complete with assumptions,
boundaries and expectations.

Boxes that create bias.
Because when labels define us,
boxes confine us.

How can we change that?

Two years ago on IWD
I delivered a talk on the Wordz We Wear®

I challenged women to look at how we describe ourselves

Because how we talk to – and about – ourselves
affects how we show up.

If ever there was a time to show up,
It’s now.

The world needs us.

Let’s talk about the way we talk to and about ourselves
Let’s talk about the way we talk to and about other women.
Other people.
Other nationalities.

It’s time to stop the bias…
And that means supporting each other.

Let’s find the Wordz that break the barriers that hold us back.

What labels hold you back?
Who would you be if you discarded them?
